A small porcelain hand-painted, handled lidded container with a Nanking pattern in underglaze blue.

The thinly potted porcelain has a bluish cast to the glaze. It has branched handles with small oak leaf decorations where the handle attaches to the body. The lid has a berry finial with leaves. The underglaze blue decoration is very fine and is a nice dark blue color. The lid fits the small pot but is a slightly different blue color. It has a foot ring that is not glazed. The lid has an unglazed underside and the mouth on the pot is unglazed on the inside.

There are no porcelain marks.

Provenance: From the Ellis Family collection. Most of the collection was acquired by Dr. Robert Hale Ellis of Portland, OR during his regular visits to China and Japan as a physician during the early 20th C.

MEASUREMENTS
3 ¼” (8.3 cm) tall x 2 7/8” (7.3 cm) diameter. Weighs 5.1 oz (140 g)

CONDITION
There are no breaks or chips. There is a small hairline above the handle on the body. The pot looks fresh and bright.

A delicate well painted old small pot to add to your collection of blue and white porcelain.
