A hand painted head of a guardian spirit from the Tang dynasty. The painted lines of a moustache and beard are still visible

The heavy clay head is now missing its body and has been mounted onto a round wood stand with a bolt and nut. There is a partial mark on the base of the wood stand.

MEASUREMENTS

7 ¼” (18.4 cm) tall x 4” (10.2 cm) wide x 3 ¾” (9.0 cm) deep. Weighs 2 lbs 2.4 oz (980 g)

CONDITION

The head has damages from over the years. The face is still in good shape but the top and right side of the hat, in particular shows damages and losses. There are several translucent green drops on the back. The clay has a musty smell when moistened.

A real sculptural piece from antiquity. A work of art that will add to a collection or to decorate with.
