A very large transferware platter with a romantic garden estate scene. The contrast of light and dark gives this platter a dramatic element.
A heavy, eight-sided deeply edged large ceramic platter. The mulberry-colored transfer is dark and exact. Although, the lip edge shows where the transfer was slightly off. The glaze feels thick, and shiny and has a nice patina of smoothness due to age. There are kiln flaws such as bubbles on the front. The base is glazed but there are edges that aren’t glazed, probably where the piece rested in the kiln.
There is a mark on the under-rim of a floral wreath with a lion above and the name T. J. & C. J. Mayer. The pattern name is also present Rhone SCENERY.
