A nicely-sized and colorfully hand painted Japanese Imari lidded porcelain jar with a large lid and bulb finial.

The porcelain jar with matching lid has been hand painted in under glaze cobalt and over glaze red, green, and gold. Four large panels alternate between phoenixes and dragons surrounded by many floral motifs. The panels with phoenixes are mirror images of each other. The glaze is thick and white.

The base is glazed and unmarked. The rounded shallow foot ring is unglazed, showing a dense and very white paste.
 
MEASUREMENTS
 
6 1/8” (15.6 cm) diameter x 11 ¼” (28.6 cm) tall. Weighs 3 lbs 4.7 oz (1490 g)
 
CONDITION
 
The lid has a break on the rim that was partially repaired. The jar has a crack going around the body of the jar that’s also been repaired. Cement from both repairs is visible in places. The glazes are bright and shiny, but there is wear to the gilding. The jar has a great look even with the damages.
 
A large and colorful Japanese porcelain that is bright, colorful and striking. It will make for a rich display.
