Vintage Viners Sheffield Pewter Epergne with Children

A cast pewter base with a raised platform holds a tall clear hand-blown glass vase with a crimped mouth. A pair of children decorate the base. The little girl is holding a mirror and checking out her hairdo. The boy opposite side has his arm raised. A pewter metal ring near the base holds the vase in place.

 

Although the figures, in particular, give the epergne a very Victorian feel, it was produced somewhere between 1960 and 1974. A mark on the base reads “VINERS of Sheffield”, “English Pewter” and “Made in England”. This mark was used by Viners between 1960 and 1974.

 

 

11 ¾” (29.9 cm) tall x 6” (15.2 cm) diameter. Weighs 1 lb 5.4 oz (600 g)

 

 

There are no cracks, chips, or breaks in the glass. The base is not dented but does rock slightly. There is a bit of corrosion on the rings of the pedestal and near where the glass meets the base. There is also light spotting on the pewter metal. The children figures look good. The glass has a few bubbles and imperfections a two light scratches and no chips.
