A very intricate casting of a censer with foo lion feet, handles, and finial.
The medium-sized but heavy bronze censer is decorated with deeply-cast panels of birds, trees and animals. The lid has cloud cutouts for the smoke to escape and a male foo lion holding his paw on the world. Handles of upside down foo lions jut out from both sides of the body. The censer rests on a round base with three foo lion mask feet.
The golden color of the underlying bronze is visible along areas of wear on the mouth and lid.
5” (12.7 cm) wide x 3 ½” (8.9 cm) diameter x 5 ¼” (13.3 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lbs 10.5 oz (750 g)
There are no breaks, cracks, or dents. The censer has a dark brown patina. A bit of verdigris shows on the shoulder and mouth, and shows highlights on raised areas, mouth and lid. The interior shows blackened areas from use.
A highly decorative incense burner to use or to decorate with.
