A colorful and intricately painted Imari plate with a central pin wheel design.
The porcelain plate has a slightly scalloped edge.
The plate is decorated in under glaze cobalt and over glaze enamels with alternating panels of pine and prunus. The central medal is a pattern of swirling fern fronds. The hand painting is very fine indeed. The underside is painted with cobalt in a scrolling design.
The plate has a shallow rounded foot and shows a nice white paste with touches of iron red from the firing. The base has a central spur mark in the center and a four-character mark in cobalt.
7” (17.8 cm) diameter x 1 1/8” (2.9 cm) deep. Weighs 11.0 oz (310 g)
There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. There are kiln flaws, such as pinhole reserves, bumps and a couple of blue spots. The glaze is well oxidized and very soft to the touch.
A very old and colorful antique Japanese dish to add to a collection or use to add color to your home.
