A mirror pair of porcelain figurines of prancing horses with their grooms. They have a nice size and show movement. The grooms are having a tough time keeping them controlled.
The figurines have been molded and then glazed in thin aubergine, yellow and green glazes. The grooms have holes in their hands which would have held the reins. The horse harnesses have matching holes to fit the reins. The grooms also have holes in their ears for earrings or hair.  The detail in the molding is deep and well defined. I love the teeth and tongues of the horses. The glazes have good control.
A red mark of CHINA is stamped on one foot of both of the grooms.
Figure 1 – 7 ½” (19.0 cm) long x 4 ¼” (10.8 cm) wide x 7 7/8” tall (20.0 cm).
Figure 2 - 7 ¾” (19.7 cm) long x 4” (10.2 cm) wide x 7 7/8” tall (20.0 cm).
Total weight 2 lbs 7.8 oz (1100 g)
The horses each have one broken ear tip and one of the horses has the other ear repaired. There are no other breaks, cracks, repairs, or chips. The glazes look fresh and bright for the age. Both grooms are missing their reins. There are kiln flaws, such as bumps, dark spots, and glaze flaws.
A colorful, dynamic mirror pair of horses with their attendants that will look good in a collection or to decorate a mantle or table.
