Staffordshire Scottish Lord and Lady Mantle Piece 19th Century

A hand painted and colorful antique Victorian Mantle piece that is large and very well molded.

The molded ceramic has been hand-painted with designs of a lord and lady with tartan plaid in Scottish dress. They are seated next to each other in a romantic pose on a stone wall with a large circle below them. The circle would have been painted with a clock face and could have been stopped at a particular time for sentimental reasons. The base foot is slightly raised and is unglazed. There is a hole in the center to let out the extra clay from the mold. It would also help with the firing process.

There are no marks or labels.

14 ½” (36,8 cm) tall x 9” (22.9 cm) long x 3” (7.6 cm) wide. Weighs 3 lb 7.0 oz (1555 g)

There are no cracks, chips or breaks. There is some paint loss to the lady's hair and the tip of the gentleman’s shoe. The body glaze is crazed with staining in the lines. There are manufacture flaws like bumps and paint spots.
