Vintage Chinese Naturalistic Carved Wooden Brush Pot

A handmade brush pot in the shape of an old, twisted tree trunk that shows the artistry of an earlier age.

 

A wooden cylinder has been cut with intricate surfaces depicting a natural tree trunk. The wood used is a softer wood and not a hard wood. There are circular concentric cuts in the interior well. It must have been fashioned on a lathe. The exterior has deep and all-over cut designs to look like weathered bark and wood. The base is flat and shows saw marks. The brush pot has been given a shiny coating.

 

There are no marks or labels.

 

5 in (12.7 cm) diameter x 6 ½ in (16.5 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 7.9 oz (680 g)

 

There are no breaks, chips, cracks, or repairs.  There is very little wear to the finish, as well.
