A colorful hand-painted Kutani plate in the Aote Ko-Kutani style with an intricate and detailed design of a bird in a garden.

The porcelain plate has been molded with a scalloped rim and cavetto. It has been glazed with is a dun yellow base glaze with darker aubergine spots, and a green and brown tree with a pheasant sitting above peonies. The back edge is painted with a turquoise and black design. The mouth rim has been painted with the aubergine color. The hand painting is very precise and tiny.

The foot is not glazed but the base is glazed in the dun color. The unglazed foot shows a very refined white clay. There is a black character mark in the center of the base that reads fuku ("Good fortune" or "happiness"), which is common on Kutani porcelain honoring the Ko-Kutani (17 century) style. This dish likely dates to the mid-20th century. The dish also has two old paper labels. One is a red export label and the other is a partial collector’s typed label that reads “Green Kut…”.
