Chinese Mother of Pearl Peony Pin early 20th Century

Shiny, iridescent hand-carved Chinese pin with a classic peony flower design that was hand cut and incised.

A thin piece of gray-blue shell was cut and shaped to form a peony flower. The mother of pearl was incised with good line quality to define the shape. The back had a bar pin attached. There are traces of the glue used to attach the carving to the pin.

There are no marks or labels.

MEASUREMENTS
2 ½” (6.4 cm) wide x 1 5/8” (4.1 cm) tall x 1/16” (.2 cm) thick (not including the pin). Weighs .18 oz (5.04 g)

CONDITION
There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. The shell is bright and reflective.

A very simple but intricately carved piece of jewelry that has a wonderful reflective quality. One second it flashes and with a simple movement, it disappears.
