An intricate, professionally painted, and colorful Japanese satsuma vase with a design of flowers and a flycatcher bird in a garden. . Gilding has been used throughout to add richness and shine. The vase is made from a lightweight ceramic with a crackle glaze. The foot is shallow, cut, rounded, and unglazed. The base is glazed. The glaze feels very soft and thick.

There is a Japanese two-character artist mark in a cartouche on the base. Above the cartouche is the Shimazu family crest.

MEASUREMENTS
6 1/8” (15.6 cm) tall x 3 ¼” (8.3 cm) diameter. Weighs 9.3 oz (265 g)

CONDITION
There are no cracks, breaks, or chips. There is limited wear to the gilding at the mouth rim, and kiln flaws, such as small black dots.

A great vase to add that touch of Japan to the mid-century décor.
