A set of four Japanese blue and white porcelain bowls with intricate hand painted designs. The design on the cavettos is a floral scroll with gingko leaves and chrysanthemum flowers. The central medallion is the three friends of winter: pine, prunus, and bamboo. The back has a lined scroll.   The cobalt used is a nice dark cobalt with black overtones.
 
The bowls are molded with barbed rims, shallow glazed feet and unglazed bases surrounding a central glazed centers with a Japanese maker’s mark.
 
MEASUREMENTS
 
5 ¼” (13.3 cm) diameter x 1 1/8” (2.6 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 7.0 oz (665 g)
 
CONDITION
 
There are no breaks, repairs or cracks. One bowl has a small rim chip. All bowls have a few small rim glaze frits, smudges of cobalt on the backs and kind flaws, such as black spots and bumps.
