An over-the-top Victorian butter dish with detailed repousse and molded details that still has much silver and has shined up nicely.
 
The dish has been cast with a deep well for holding ice. There is a round tray with a central hole to hold the butter above the ice. The dish has is an arching handle for passing and holding the butter dish. The top is a cylindrical dome, which is topped with a triangular finial. On one side of the dish is a pair of forks to hold the butter knife. The mouth edge is decorated with a repousse band of flowers. The legs are chicken feet at the ends.
 
There is a mark on the base with the words “QUADRUPLEPLATE HOMAN SILVERPLATE CO” encircling a central anchor design. There is a production number 510.
 
MEASUREMENTS
 
11 ¼” (28.6 cm) tall x 6” (15.2 cm) diameter. Weighs 1 lb 9.8 oz (730 g)
 
CONDITION  
 
There is a dent on the lid's top edge and the interior well.  There are silver losses, especially to the interior well and to the insert tray. There are small wear scratches throughout from age and use. The outside still shines up nicely though. It is missing the butter knife, although they are easy to replace.
 
A fun, exotic, over-the-top butter dish that you can still use and admire.
