A very large ceramic food mold that has been used by generations of bakers to bake desserts and puddings, as well as potentially make gelatins and aspic.

The molded ceramic mold has a central cone that would aid in baking or steaming food. The central cone has a hole in the top for letting out steam. The walls have molded curving slanted lines. The interior and sides of the exterior are glazed in a brown glaze. The mouth, base and bottom of the central cone are unglazed. The unglazed clay has a reddish hue and is likely terra cotta from the Provence region. The edge of the base shows hand cutting. There are four large sager mark on the base.

MEASUREMENTS

11” (28.0 cm) diameter x 5” (12.7 cm) tall. Weighs 4 lbs 2.8 oz (1895 g)

CONDITION

There are two chips on the rim and several smaller ones on around the base. There is wear from use especially along the rim. There is a small glaze chip on the inside; and kiln and manufacture flaws, such as bumps and glazed nicks. There are a few tiny white paint splatters in the interior too. It has a nice aged and used appearance.

A great large piece to provide substance and richness to the kitchen decor. Or you can continue using it to bake in the French tradition.
