A colorful, large, intricate, detailed polychrome pair of a Chinese nobleman and his wife that show very much hand work.

The molded pair of figurines are hand painted in polychrome enamels. The painting is detailed and extensive. The robes, the clouds, and especially the faces are professionally painted. The bases are flat and unglazed.

There are molded marks on the bases. There are two CHINA marks and a Chinese character mark impressed on both bases. There are also paper labels on the back base of each figure. They are an orange color but most of the writing is gone. I believe I can make out the word “China” there too.

MEASUREMENTS

Male figure - 10 ¼” tall x 3 ½” wide x 3 ½” deep.

Female figure – 10 ¼” tall x 3 ¼” wide x 3 ¼” deep.

Total weight 2 lb 13.3 oz (1285 g)

CONDITION

There is a chip on the cloud near the base of the man’s robe. The scepter the man was likely holding at one time is now gone. There is glue residue by the man’s hand. The female figure has no chips, cracks or breaks. The enamels on both are bright and shiny.

A nice sized matched pair of Chinese figurines to decorate with or add to a collection.
