A ferocious three-clawed dragon is flying through the clouds on this porcelain plate. The plate celebrates the year of the dragon, 1988.
Â
The design is a transfer. The plate’s rim is gilded. The script on the front is a poem that roughly translates as follows:
Â
Grasp the clouds and fly on the mist, jumping around in heaven and earth
On New Year's Day of the Year of Earth-Dragon (1988)
Taocheng-ren - Man from Taocheng - Pseudonym
Yushan-xie - Painted by Yu Shan - Other pseudonym
Â
The shallow foot is unglazed, and the clay is white. There is a Chinese seal mark on the bottom, as well as the words “Manufactured Under the Supervision of the National Museum of History -(Taiwan)” in Chinese characters. The plate was likely produced for and sold by the museum’s gift shop.
