A well molded joss stick holder or vase with alternating lotus panels and scholars in mountain settings.

The heavy molded stoneware-like ceramic is decorated with alternating panels of lotus’ and a scholar mountain retreat. Borders of key fret run along the top and bottom of the piece. It has been glazed with a thin yellow ochre glaze. The interior is only partially glazed.

The piece has a raised unglazed square foot with an unglazed base. There is a plastic or wax export stamp on the base.

CONDITION

There is wear to the mouth with little nicks and glaze frits. There are also a few glaze frits along other edges. There is a small chip along the edge of one of the lotus panels. There are kiln and manufacture flaws, such as glaze pooling, imperfections in, grit on the foot, and glaze reserves. It has a hands-on charm and looks complete and bright.
