A large heavy oval platter from the late 19th Century with colorful transfers of roses with floral and arabesque decorations. The transfer has gilding to accent the decorations.  The underside of the platter indents to a rounded ring above the foot. The platter has a shallow foot and a glazed base. The glaze is a bright white with the transfers in deep blue, orange, green and brown. The glaze feels very soft and thick.

There is a mark on the base. It reads JOHN MADDOCK & SONS LTD ENGLAND ROYAL VITREOUS. This is in a circle below a crown.  The pattern name is MAJESTIC . There are two marks stamped into the platter clay. One is the number I and the other I can’t decipher.
