An octagonal sugar bowl with a matching lid that has a dreamy mulberry transfer design of an exotic temple or palace set in a lush garden.

The heavy low fired ceramic sugar bowl with lid has been coated in a thin crazed glaze with a mulberry transfer for decoration. The body has a design of a temple or manor house in an exotic garden with palm trees and willow. The transfer has a fuzzy dream-like quality. These main designs are framed by floral borders. The lid and finial have a matching colored transfer that matches the floral border on the body.

The piece has no maker’s mark or labels.

MEASUREMENTS
7” (17.8 cm) wide x 5” (12.7 cm) diameter x 8” (30.3 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 10.8 oz (760 g)

CONDITION

The neck on the lid final has been repaired. There is brown staining above the foot, on the base, as well as in the interior. There is fine crazing on the exterior of the body, but much less on the lid. Otherwise, there are no chips, cracks, or breaks. The glaze has a nice shine to it.

A work of art is like a piece of sculpture. The angular shape is so distinctive.
