A colorful pair of matching Chinese rose mandarin plates from the mid-19th century.

The two hand potted porcelain plates have been glazed with polychrome designs. The plates have two panels with mandarin garden scenes and two panels with birds, butterflies, peonies, flowers and fruit. They are hand painted with colorful enamels and gilt. The shallow feet are cut sharp, unglazed have grit from the kiln. The plates are unmarked.

MEASUREMENTS

7 7/8” (20.0 cm) diameter x 7/8” (2.2 cm) deep. Weighs 1 lb 2.7 oz

CONDITION

Both plates have a hairline from the rim. There is a repaired chip on one plate. The other plate has a small nick at the top of the hairline. They show little wear and were only displayed. The enamels are still bright and colorful. There are manufacture flaws, such as enamel spots, reserves, bumps, and grit.
