A dreamy, pale blue, transfer pattern of an Italianate villa produced by Wedgewood during the middle of the 19th C.

The heavy ceramic plate has a pale blue transfer pattern of a palace on the water, gardens, and people promenading on a terrace. The cavetto has panels of a palace within a cartouche. The glaze is thick and soft with a fine crackle. The shallow foot and base are both glazed.

The mark on the base has a ribbon cartouche with the word IRONSTONE surrounding the pattern name “Columeia” (which is not very legible). The name “J. Wedgewood” is on the ribbon. A second mark is a diamond shape dating mark with “Rd” in the middle, surrounded by IV, U, 23, 2, and R. Much of this mark is difficult to read.
