A Victorian syrup that still has much silver and has polished up nicely.

The heavy base metal has been silver plated with a repousse design on the body of an heirloom cabbage rose. On the opposite side there is a design that resembles a rose hip when looking straight down, but with the central portion left blank. This was most likely intended for engraving. The handle has a beaded top decoration. There is a chain like ring at the neck. The base is flat.

An impressed mark on the base reads DERBY SILVER CO DERBY CT QUADRUPLEPLATE. These words circle an anchor and crown. There is a production number of 1640.

MEASUREMENTS

3 ¼” (8.3 cm) diameter x 6” (15.2 cm) tall. Weighs 9.1 oz (260 g)

CONDITION

There are no breaks or cracks. The silver is in very good shape and it shines easily. It may have been re-silvered at some point. There are a few small raised areas and a small solder mark on the base. There are a couple of small dents and pits on the body, as well as a few nicks at the spout and the base. There are also wear scratches around the edge of the base.
