Victorian Silver Plate Cake Basket by Simpson Hall Miller circa 1870

Ornate, shiny, hand-worked cake basket by Simpson Hall Miller that has a central repousse wall of flowers.

The basket has a floral finial on the basket handle which stays up when at rest. The central well has a repousse design of different flowers from tulips, to daisies. The basket rests flat on 4 ornate floral feet. The mouth rim has a ribbed border. The metal is quite heavy.

There is a stamped mark on the backside of one foot that reads, “SIMPSON HALL MILLER CO. QUADRUPLE PLATE and the number 170.”

MEASUREMENTS
10” (24.5 cm) diameter x 9” (22.9 cm) tall with handle. 3 ½” (8.9 cm) tall with handle lowered.

Weighs 1 lb 11.9 oz (790 g)

CONDITION
There are no cracks or breaks. There is a small dent on the inner mouth edge. There are wear scratches in the inner bowl as well as silver losses. The basket still has much silver and has polished up nicely.

A beautiful, shiny, useful cake basket to entertain with or just admire on a sideboard. It will add a spark of silver glimmer to shabby chic or Victorian décor.
