A sepia-toned Aesthetic Movement Teacup and Saucer by the firm Charles Allerton & Sons Staffordshire England that has had a transfer of the Water Hen Pattern applied. The transfer design is of a romantic castle with a marsh filled with primula flowers, lily pads, a water hen and swallows flying above. It is a very idyllic, bucolic, and romantic design. The foot is lightly glazed and rounded. The bases are glazed.

There is a transfer in sepia on the saucer base with the words WATER HEN within a belt.

MEASUREMENTS

Saucer - 5 ½” (14.0 cm) diameter x ¾” (1.9 cm) tall.

Cup 3 1/2 (8.9 cm) diameter x 2 ½” (6.4 cm) tall.

Weighs 8.4 oz (240 g)

condition

There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. There is only light wear to the saucer well and some light staining in the well of the teacup. Both pieces have kiln flaws, such as bumps, transfer misses (especially the lines nearest the rim) and brown glaze spots. They look amazing for the age.

A very clean teacup and saucer to add to a collection of Aesthetic Movement dishes or have out and enjoy.
