An antique Chinese bowl from the late Ming Dynasty that is hand painted and potted. The central medallion is of a bird perched on a rock.
A thin porcelain bowl has been glazed in a bluish white glaze with under-glaze cobalt designs. The designs have panels with fruit and precious objects. The mouth rim has a design of what look like cats looking down at the bird in the central medallion. The back is painted with panels and floral scrolls. The shallow foot is unglazed with some grit adhering. There is more grit on the base glaze. The base is unmarked.
MEASUREMENTS
6 in (15.2 cm) diameter x 2 in (5.1 cm) deep. Weighs 5.8 oz (165 g)
CONDITION
There are glaze frits along the mouth rim. One large portion of the rim has been repaired, and another large crack near this repair. There is a chip under the rim, near the second crack, that has been repaired. The chip is not visible when viewing the bowl from above.
A very old antique bowl that will add to a collection or use to decorate with. I love the free hand designs and especially the cats looking down.
