A colorful and delicate Chinese cup and divided saucer with a thousand butterfly design.
The thinly molded Chinese porcelain teacup and divided saucer have been decorated in a thousand butterfly pattern. The white base glaze is very white with no blue tint. The enamel colors are bright and fresh looking. Gilt was used on the mouth rims and as a background for the butterflies.
The saucer has an unglazed double foot with some kiln grit adhering. An iron red stamped mark on the saucer base reads “CHINA” in a cartouche.
Saucer – 8 ½” (21.6 cm) long x 4 ¾” (12.1 cm) wide x 1” (2.5 cm) tall
Cup – 3 ½” (8.9 cm) long x 3” (7.6 cm) diameter x 1 7/8” (4.8 cm) tall.
Weighs 11.4 oz (325 g)
There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. The enamels look like the piece was never used. The gilding is also mostly intact, with a bit of wear on the upper band on the teacup, and moderate wear on the handle.
An unusual cup and saucer pair with room for a snack when you take your tea.
