Chinese Wood Carving of Shao Lao Republic Period

A classically posed Chinese immortal figure with auspicious symbols has been carved from hardwood. The carving is deep with good detail in the face, beard, and robe. The figure stands on a raised stand and holds a staff and a peach. The wood is heavy and tight grained and a single piece. It has been stained dark with a slight red cast.

8 ¾” (22.2 cm) tall x 2 ½” (6.4 cm) wide x 2 ¼” (5.7 cm) deep. Weighs 9.9 oz (285 g)

There are no breaks, chips, or cracks. There is fine wear and a tiny nick to the lower edge of the robe.
