A colorful and detailed early painting on pith paper of a mandarin with his court robe, rank badge and peacock feather hat, and his attendant. The painting shows rich furnishings in his home. The facial detail is very good and has captured the personality of the mandarin. I love the peach bloom bottle vase with flowers.

The painting has a more recent wooden frame with raised detailing in the corners. There is an inner frame of brown velour. The picture is double matted. The words JB Frames 350 11x14 are written on the back.

MEASUREMENTS

Frame - 21 ¾” (55.2 cm) tall x 18 ¾ (47.6 cm) wide x 2 ¼” (5.7 cm) thick.
Artwork – 11” (28.0 cm) tall x ½” (1.3 cm) wide
Weighs 4 lbs 13 oz (2200 g)

CONDITION

There is a crack in the painting on the lower edge of the mandarin’s robe. It is very small and not distracting. There are tiny brown spots. The frame has some wear to the corners and on some of the edges but these are small too. The bottom left corner of the glass is cracked.

A detailed very colorful Chinese painting from a historic time.
