An old artistic metal picture frame from Japan that will add richness and substance to a picture or photo.
A heavy old picture frame has been given a metal surface with flying dragons. The auspicious dragons show fierceness and movement. The casting is very deep with a strong sense of movement. The front of the frame was given a dark brown patina.
The frame has glass over the picture opening. The interior is lined with a silk fabric. The back of the frame is thick with a textured covering. There is a hinged flap with two swivels to hold in the picture. There was once a leg on the back to stand the frame, but this is now missing. You can still hang the frame from a cord secured with brass nails at the top. There are six brass studs to keep the picture off the wall.
MEASUREMENTS
9 ½ in (24.1 cm) diameter x ½ in (1.3 cm) thick. Picture opening 5 in (12.7 cm). Weighs 1 lb 8.5 oz (695 g)
CONDITION
There is a small amount of bending along the bottom edge of the frame. Otherwise, the metal and glass show no breaks, chips, cracks, or repairs. The rich patina is mostly intact, with only minor wear to a few raised areas, a few scratches, as well as a small area that has flaked off along the bottom edge. The back shows wear and is missing the easel that would have allowed the frame to stand. The interior silk is worn and discolored. A tear in the silk has been patched with a piece of tape.
A great picture frame with age and richness. I love the depiction of the dragons.
