An antique tea caddy with mahogany veneer that has a rich, aged look. It still can be used to stash your treasures.
 
A soft wood, which looks like pine, has been covered in thin mahogany veneer. You can see the underlying wood on the base. The lid has a brass ring on the top, which serves as a handle. It’s in the shape of a flower basket with loop. The lid is attached by means of two pin hinges. The front of the box has an old lock with a lighter color wood inlaid for the keyhole. The shape of the box is a rhombus. The wood has taken on a deep richness from age and use. The interior of the box has been papered in a modern self-adhesive paper.
 
There is an old paper label on the base that reads “Tea Caddy belonging to Grandfather’s family”.  The box Is old and may even be Georgian.
 
MEASUREMENTS
 
10 ½” (26.7 cm) long x 5 ½” (14.0 cm) wide x 5 ¾” (14.6 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 7.8 oz (680 g)
 
CONDITION
 
Veneer is missing on the corners of the lid. The edges of both the lid and mouth of the base have small wood losses. The key is missing from the lock. The paper inside is coming loose. The base is missing the four feet at the corners and the wood has split on the base. There is wear to walls of the box, as well as the top of the lid.
 
A great old wood box that will add to a collection or display.
