Thai Sawankhalok Stoneware Paste Box 15th Century

A very old lidded, round stoneware box with a thin and shiny glaze. It looks like the ceramic was dipped in a glaze and then decorated with a scalloped ring design using a darker glaze. The lid has a molded design that appears to be a fruit with a stem.

The base is flat, unglazed, and has no foot ring. The interior of the lid and box are unglazed.

MEASUREMENTS
2 ½” (6.4 cm) diameter x 2” (5.1 cm) tall. Weighs 3.9 oz (115 g)

CONDITION
There are no breaks or cracks. The box base has some small chips around the edge of the flange. There is wear to the glazes, especially on the lid. This is a very old piece.

An archaic stoneware box that will be a conversation piece or add to a collection.
