Victorian Silver Plate Cruet Set Floral Repousse 19th Century

A large silverplate cruet set with six bottles with has repousse floral bands on the metal and complementary etched floral designs on most of the molded glass bottles.

 

A heavy metal silverplated base was made in three pieces. The handle is open for easy pick up and has floral elements. The revolving tray has six holes and has a repousse apron. The base has a repousse band midway.

 

Two of the six cruet bottles have glass stoppers, three have metal shaker tops, and one bottle has a top with a slot for a spoon. The bottles are a marriage with similar different floral patterns.

 

I could find no maker's mark. The letter Z and the number 1248 are etched on the undercarriage of the revolving platform.

 

 

16 ½” (41.9 cm) tall x 8” (20.3 cm) diameter.

Bottle are all 2 ¼” (5.7 cm) diameter and range in height 6” (15.2 cm) to 9” (22.9 cm) tall.

The revolving holder has a slight dent, resulting in a bit of a tilt to the platform. Very little silver remains on both the frame and most of the silverplated tops. One lid is loose and uses cotton thread wrapped about the glass opening to secure the lid. One bottle has a crack at the neck. Some or all the bottles are not original to the holder; the etched designs on five bottles differ slightly and the shortest bottle has no etched design. Nevertheless, they all coordinate well.

 

A very Victorian table piece that will add age and grace to your dining table. The cruets are very practical for serving a variety of salad dressings and sauces.
